Invitation

When I say “Let’s get coffee,”
what I mean is “Let’s have a real conversation.”
When I say “How are you?” I’m asking for the truth,
even if you don’t think I want to hear it.
When I say “What have you been up to lately?”
I want you to tell me about the story you’re writing with your life.
I want the good, the bad, and the existential.
I want to know where you come from,
and how that affects where you’re going.
I want to know what moves you.
I want to know what’s holding you back.
“Let’s go for a walk” means “I care about you,”
and that means all parts of you.
“Can we catch up sometime?” means I’ve been thinking about your story
and I want to receive the next chapter.
Your trust is a gift and I’m so grateful for it.
Please tell me more.
I want to hear you. I want to be with you.
My heart is open.
Let me pull you in.
